International Day of the Midwife - Thank you Midwife

May 5, 2018

Today, May 5th, is International Day of the Midwife and because it’s a message I so very much believe in, I’m continuing my work with Pampers to encourage you all to thank your midwives.

I think we can all agree how much we love and appreciate our midwives. Yet, Pampers know from research that 1 in 3 midwives feel undervalued. We’re on a mission to try and let them know just how much we really do care.

The overriding word I’m left with when I think about the midwives that looked after me in labour is - safe. I felt cared for and like I was the important person at that moment. I had no concerns that I wasn’t in good hands. I can’t actually remember what they actually said to me, as it was all a bit of a blur, but I know that they were exactly what my baby and me needed. You can read about my birth story here

Like many parents I will always regret not going back to the hospital and saying Thank You. 8 out of 10 mums agree that it is important to thank your midwife, but just over half actually do. I want all midwives to know that I’m working with Pampers so that parents like me can show their appreciation now and get involved with our campaign and express their feelings for their midwife or for midwives in general.

Every time we use the hashtag #ThankYouMidwive on social media Pampers will donate £1 to the Royal College of Midwives Benevolent Fund - which supports midwives who have fallen on hard times. You can also purchase a specially created Thank You Midwife moonpig.com card to send your own midwife and the same donation will stand.

Pampers will also be continuing to support the UK’s midwives and show how much they are appreciated by making over their hospital staff rooms as well as executing other additional little “thank you” gestures.

A perfect reason to say #ThankYouMidwife and express your appreciation this International Day of the Midwife.

Love Nat x
