Proudly flying the M&S flag

September 13, 2017

How much of what you wear everyday is influenced by the catwalk? You probably think not much. Do you think about whether that polka dot dress is bang on trend or do you pull out any old pair of jeans and top that's easiest to hand? When you're a mum (or a dad) fashion can often fall into the whatever's easiest category. Getting the kids out of the house, clothed, baby bag full of essentials, hair brushed, teeth cleaned and all looking semi-respectable is about as much as one can handle. It doesn't get much easier when they get a bit older, in case you're thinking it does! School uniforms, PE kits, packed lunches, reading books read and signed for, the list goes on.

I have been flying the flag for the Great British brand Marks and Spencer's for a long time. I have often found some amazing well made, trend led M&S pieces at reasonable prices, which sometimes surprised people when I told them where I got them from. M&S are very good at catering for everyone - young, old, male and female. Whoever you are you can guarentee you've probably shopped at M&S at some point in your lifetime. However sometimes it can be difficult to find that perfect stand-out piece you've been looking for because there's a lot to see.

Well look no further. I can proudly announce that I'm working with M&S and picking out my key pieces over the next few months. I'm hoping to inspire you and give you some suggestions that make your life easier because I've done the hard work for you. You'll see me a size 12, 37 year old mother of two, showcasing my edited picks and talking to you about why I've picked them, showing you how they look on a non-model like me and how you can wear them too.

Pleated Wide Leg Cropped Trousers | Gold Boots

Don't shy away from white because the weather is getting cold. White looks clean and crisp and is all over the catwalks. These may not be the most practical colour if you have children under 5 but they are great trousers for cocktails with the girls, or date night, alternatively they are perfect for work. Very easy to dress up on down, and they are super flattering. I've paired mine with these metallic boots which have a little block heel and are extremely comfortable. So comfortable in fact I'm thinking of getting more of them, they do similar ones in silver, red, black and grey. All have added Insolia soles which is why my feet felt like they'd stepped onto a mattress when I put them on. Definitely boots you'll be happy all day without any bother.

Floral Print Velvet Dress

Velvet is BIG this season. Put floral and velvet together and you'll look like you really do pay close attention to the latest fashion trends! This dress is gorgeous, the only problem is people will want to stroke you, so be aware. I wore this the other night to Mother Pukka's book launch and because I'd just stepped off a plane from Greece I was feeling the temperature drop somewhat so I paired it with a mustard polo neck, which worked well. The ribbed polo neck comes in lots of different colours, it's a great staple, wear it with those summer dresses you're not ready to banish to the loft just yet.

Out and about last week in my mustard M&S polo knit and velvet dress.

You will see mustard (or gold as they are named on the website) are everywhere this season. Not one to be left out, I've dived in head first with this velvet pleated skirt and ribbed top combo. Paler skin tones may struggle with this warm yellow. However there are plenty of other shades that may be more suitable if thats you.

Trench Coat

One of those staple wardrobe that will never date. This is a particularly fine example, also available in black this 3/4 length coat will keep you warm and dry. It has a detachable hood, making this the most stylish practical purchase you'll make this year. The fit is fairly generous, so you may want to size down for this one.

What do you think of my picks? Let me know if there's anything you're loving from M&S this season.
